Commonwealth
Michael Hansen (modality) has released a new game called Commonwealth today! I did the layout for the book and lots of playtesting.
Commonwealth is described as a "a far-future social climbing simulation" game and it is a very unique project. I had not seen anything like it at all when I first saw it, but having played off and on for months now I can say it's one of my favorite games.
In the rough shape of it is somewhere between a tabletop rpg and board game. The "game" parts are very procedural and do not require a referee or GM, and the rpg parts are the gaps of description and texture that you're invited to fill in yourself. Even if you were not necessarily inhabiting your character in a performative mode, the systems force you into decisions like who should I blackmail for this favor, which title would be the most profitable in the long term, and so on. It is a very good kind of game for looking at a dice roll and then asking "why did that happen?".
It also plays extremely well online, supports a number of people that can easily drop-in/out. Please give it a look at and play it!
